Many, many coaches position themselves as The Expert: And, what that means is they are gonna “Tell” you how to navigate your career. Whilst they might feel very attractive, in the long run it’s THEIR way and not yours.

The ICF states the 80/20 rule, and I like it: If YOU as the client are speaking less than 80% of each session, then the coach isn’t doing their job.
The coach’s job is to ask questions. And then the coach’s job is to LISTEN to the answers you give. This way, you can hear yourself, and that means you can make your own decisions.

I can guarantee that you will be really frustrated and pissed off if, by session two of a coaching relationship where you are being told what to do — No adult flourishes in these circumstances.
