Career Link

Without a career link in the external world it is impossible to find work for ourselves. Without career links to our internal world it is impossible to find a real and sustainable career path.

It is the sweet-spot we are seeking. We need to find that place wherein what we love doing is what the world loves receiving from us. This is when what we give and we receive is both joyous and equitable. This is when we can work without it depleting us because the work nourishes us too.

How do we find this sweet spot? By exploring and strengthening our internal career link.

I don’t know about you but I definitely was not encouraged to look at what motivated me regarding choosing a career. At school I felt I was given a list of possible jobs and asked to choose one based on what I thought it might be like. Firstly at 14 years of age I had little experience of the world of work so my ‘thoughts’ about ‘what it would be like’ were probably fairly askance. I also never asked ‘why’ I would want to do each role. I didn’t know there was more to work than a wage. I didn’t realise that it needed to have some meaning beyond money for me if I were to show up day in day out. I didn’t know it would need to meet some core need or value in me too in order for it to be worthwhile. I didn’t know there needed to be a link between my career and me.

Now I know that what I do for my day job meets three core values: justice, equality and joy. Whether I have my career Coach hat on, my supervisor hat on, my motherhood hat on or my entrepreneurial hat on, all of these must meet these three core values. When my work meets my cure values it nourishes me. When I am nourishes my work is sustainable.

Know thyself and know thy market and thus way you have a career sweet-spot. Find that internal career link and then see how, where and with whom that can play out in the external world.
