Coach Tracker
A coach tracker is one description that has been used of me in my professional practise. It was not used in the sense of the means by which one tracks ones transport, but, as a verb to describe the way in which I work with my clients. Accountability is a huge part of the coaching process and I have to hand many resources with which to track down the tasks we have agreed together.
Most humans have been guilty at one time or another of not doing ‘The Thing’ that would be good for them or help them move forward. Humans are creatures of habit. Humans are often wary of change. Humans do bizarre things when they are fearful. Sometimes us humans just have to bite the bullet, admit that what we have been doing no longer serves us. Then we need to garner all our courage in order to try to do things a different way.
Yes! Change is terrifying, but, the problem is, that once the words are out in front of your coach, you might just have to engage with that change. Once I have witnessed your commitment, and I have written it down, I will track the movement of that and I will not let it go until you have either tried and discarded it, or engaged and assumed it. No excuse will count.
This description makes me sound evil when actually this tracking originates from a very good place. I am so conscious that had others not witnessed for me and held me accountable for the commitments I made to myself, that I would not even be alive today (& that is a story for another day!). The privilege of witnessing, tracking and holding accountability for others in return is rich in rewards. This way I get to see clients grow and develop into being their best professional selves. Tracking accountability is the only way I know of staying right on track and engaging with purposeful professional development.
That, in itself, is worth a little tracking in my opinion.
