Our Best Professional Selves

Sitting at a bus stop, travelling between sessions with clients, I was feeling like I’m working pretty hard right now. Then the universe stepped in to show me the benefits in my shifting my attitude…..

A man slowed and hovered before me, handing me his day-rider and so my travels that day were for free. I don’t think I looked particularly destitute, and certainly this gentleman’s intention was not deliberately at the expense of a certain bus company monopoly, It was simply a touching human exchange. One person with something that he had no further use for, sharing it with someone who did. No caveats, no questions, no expectations. Just thoughtful and kind.

Yep! I got that warm fuzzy feeling, but even better, this person influenced how I saw the rest of the day. The generosity a of an exhibition where an artist shared his journeys, both physical and emotional, through mud and words and Rock and photography, gritty and earthy. I reconnected with myself and with our planet.

Sharing the journey with a duck, sat on the quay side beside me as I write. We coexist and respect one another it seems. And this generosity bringing info focus the huge privilege it is that people ask me to accompany them in search of their best professional selves. To walk alongside them whilst they are vulnerable and invite me to celebrate their successes with them too.

Unless we assume the life of a hermit, we cannot help but share each other’s lives. Shall we chose the fear-driven self defensive route or that route that is more open, and more risky, but so much more generous and rewarding. There is something profoundly touching in the exchanges we humans allow ourselves to partake in. Giving, allowing ourselves to receive, sharing our gratitude.
