The Joy of a “Good” Coachee!

Whilst there is no such thing as a bad client, there are such things as personality mismatches or clients who perhaps not yet ready to dive headlong into the issue that needs addressing. Or there are clients with whom the relationship is in its early ‘forming’ stage and the boundaries and challenge zones are just being tested out. It takes time before the shifts are seen and the benefits are received…
So reconnecting with a client of old, albeit on a different issue can be a real joy.
Whatever therapeutic interventions are used, the healing, wherever it lies on the spectrum from psychotherapy to career Coaching, always happens ‘in the relationship’ that you and your client build together.
When you have done that work in the past, when you have delved into someone’s inner world alongside them, it’s incredible that level and strength of the immediate connection that’s awaiting you both when the client/coachee relationship is reactivated. And that is such a joy.
I would never assume that it is there, but when we can both sense that it is, then such huge progress an be made so swiftly. The trust is there on behalf of both parties. The ability to dive quickly into the presenting difficult and all the pain and frustration it might contain is absolutely equally balanced by the humour we both recognise. Our joint immediacy and agility right in the moment is exhilarating.
It’s such a treat to work with all the joy and pain of a good coachee. This is why I do what I do. This is the place and the pace at which swift healing takes place!
