Angry? So?

Sometimes, even with the best will in the world, its difficult to avoid feeling angry….There is injustice in the world. There are behaviours towards ourselves and others that we would much rather not see. Sometimes a mix of tiredness, with misunderstanding or even mal intent can trigger a time bomb in us.And?!

By which I mean ‘so what?’. We are taught from an early age that anger is ‘wrong’ or ‘dangerous’ or ‘uncivilised’ and ‘unladylike’…..But I would like to contradict the above statements by saying that anger is a normal, natural, human emotion. So long as it is expressed safely, anger is healthy and is useful.

Anger is a great motivator, it can move us to take action to change things. It is a great defence mechanism and will enable us to protect those more vulnerable than ourselves from harm. Anger is merely an emotion, an energy in motion.

So the choice perhaps is not whether to be angry, but rather how to express this emotion. We can go for a run, we can write it down, we can garden with great oomph, but once we have shifted our ire, what we probably really need do is take a look at the cause and make the changes that mean the situation is resolved.

Anger is the great instigator of necessary change. Honour it, work with it & use it to steer your course.
