Permission to observe …

Career Coaching: Permission. I have realised its ok to answer a question with the words “I don’t know yet”.

Most of my previous clients might be gobsmacked at me writing these words. However, unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures. I am an expert in no-escape coaching. In the past, the phrase “I don’t know” merely signified that a client was giving their power away to an outside force. That is not the purpose of coaching. The purpose mainly to be to take power back from the authority figures of society, education, and family members…

Career Coaching: Permission

However, now we really are at the behest of outside forces over which we have no control. We have no idea what the world will look like in five years. We don’t really know what tomorrow will look like. We can only take the next steps in front of us whilst we take care of our physical and mental wellbeing and, that of those we love.
Perhaps for once, we need to allow ourselves to be shaped by this experience in order to understand what it is that we will need… We need to allow ourselves not to know what the answers are … we need to be gentle, to be receptive, to quit demanding and deciding what shape this needs to be. Time to surrender to the process? And to be OK with not knowing…
I wonder what will grow for us in these liminal spaces…. this is where magic appears.
For now, I think we all might need to kick-back a bit. Sure, be willing to explore but also to be willing to admit that we do not yet know …  Whether you are considering your career, your business or the wellbeing of your team, an observational stance is likely to reward the best-fitting solutions in the end.
