Let go!
Sometimes it is not possible to be on-top-of-it-all. However hard you work, however many hours you put in, sometimes the number of projects or clients in and out of the door is way to swift a turnover for the ends to be all nearly tied up before bed.
This is when it is essential to do only what is necessary. Then, and only then, can the rest be filed safely in anticipation of a quiet moment.
When you know your sector and your trade well enough you do know what is totally essential for safe-guarding, legal, and confidentiality purposes. And you can also identify the tasks that whilst they do need doing, will cause no harm if they are completing at a later date. Trust yourself. You do know the difference. When you know you industry sector and your trade, you also know the pattern of the ebb and flow of work that will come your way. There are high seasons and low seasons. It is perhaps unwise to turn work away when turnover is high in order to complete work that can be done later.
As the to-do pile grows, so does my discomfort. However, to trust that I have made informed decisions about what can wait, allows me to let go a little…..
Use Stephen Coveys time management grid if needed. And be grateful that business is booming!
If there were no work we would be concerned too. so perhaps it is more useful to be make the most of just how things are right now and attend to those things that fall into the ‘not urgent and not important’ quadrant when times are quieter.
Let go! And do just what is needed in the here and now.
