A Change is as Good as a Rest?

On a recent marketing course that  I attended, I was handed a simple questionnaire to establish what ‘drove’ me in business. Was it to be the very biggest business of my kind? Was it to earn as much money as I could? Or, as one of the options suggested: was it because I was ‘workaholic’, I laughed, and then realised that I had laughed because it rang true.
As an entrepreneur, a wife, a mother, a homeowner et al it is sometimes difficult to stop. Many women will understand how these external demands can have us running from pillar to post from dusk til dawn.
The bit that I also need to own is that my personality type will drive me onwards even when the outside world has quit demanding anything of me. I can always identify a tiny space in which to squeeze another email, a further blog, another bit of research.
As diligent as this is, as proficient a coach as this makes me, to behave in this way, 100% of the time, nourishes neither my life nor my practise.
So sometimes I need to let go. Sometimes I need to shelve a task, or sit tight in a quiet moment, or to walk away from the computer and do something entirely different…… Only then can a recognise that I have been like a hamster in her wheel, not noticing all the other beauty in the world…..
Now it is time to go and see some fireworks with the small boy. I can let let business ‘be’.
