Ask, Ask and Ask Again!

Asking For Help is Human. When I was small I was sure that being a grownup meant that I would have all the answers. Now, from the perspective of my fifth decade, I know this to be a very erroneous expectation!

I think between the ages of 16 & 26 years I pretended I knew that answers. I pretended I knew that answers a lot. In pretending, not only did I make a lot of mistakes, I also closed myself off from learning from them. I would not ask for help ever. And I crashed and burned. Repeatedly!
Now I know that not only is it ok to ask for help, but that it is ludicrous not. When to try and work it out for myself, it is merely the extremely time consuming exercise called ‘reinventing the wheel’ when I have an expert standing right next to me… So why not step right over my ego and ask for help?
There are of course some caveats to this rewarding path. Choose someone you trust. Being laughed at or rejected will not serve you. Receiving inaccurate guidance will waste time and confidence. Also, always hold in mind that you can ask for guidance and still not take it. Someone else’s solution may not be yours, or, it may need amending so that you can authenticity implement as your own.
No woman, man or child is an island. We all bring our unique strengths and vulnerabilities to this planet. We are designed to collaborate. So ask ask and ask again until you identify a way that works for you.
