Having been a resident here for 30 years, I have seen this place, space, and the business landscape transformed beyond belief.

When I arrived here from London, I fell for two things. When I was lost and asked for directions, I got an answer. And in answer to the question, I was directed The right way. Neither of these happened in London too often in the ’90s
.
Bristol’s business vista was a little stuck in its ways back then. Built on the foundations of the slave trade and then the banking tradition, this city was still viewed as backwards in coming forward.

However, with a decade’s massive influx of young tech businesses, the ENTIRE business culture has been transformed.
This doesn’t mean you need to be involved with, or even interested in, tech. What it does mean is that whatever sector you’re in, there is an openness and a willingness to welcome innovation, disruptors and radical solutions.

So, my point about the privilege of career coaching in Bristol is that this business landscape is a fabulous playground for those who wish to break tradition. The old ways, the patriarchal trades, they are all falling.

And, in this city, despite or indeed TO SPITE, the current socioeconomic challenges, there is STILL plenty of room to show up with radical, real, entrepreneurial ideas.
