Chop Wood Carry Water

As the zen proverb goes:

“Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.”

And I take this to mean, that however enlightened you are in your profession development, there will always be the basics to be done.
In order to sustain the biggest income the books must still be balanced. In order to sustain the most elevated position, the meetings must be had. In order to have the most nourishing career, the notes must still be written up.
There are mundane tasked that need to be done whatever profession or level of seniority you have achieved.
If you feel you have had a week that consists of more ‘chop wood and carry water’ than the exciting bits, be grateful for its grounding nature. There is much to be learned from returning to the coal face and it will inform your decision making well. Remember also to reward yourself this weekend in order to lift your spirits.
