Impatiently!

I am not enjoying learning to drive. Conversely I still believe that I should be able to do it. Just like that I should be able to click my fingers and be confident and competent in a vehicle on a congested road. That’s what everyone else does isn’t it?
Somehow I compare my ‘insides’ with the ‘outsides’ of those around me. Whilst of course there are the golden few who get behind the wheel as if they were born to be on the roads, but, what I neglect to see is that most people, even if it was 20 years ago, are not too fond of the driving lesson process either.
I neglect to honour that reality that they have perhaps tried and failed and tried again to befriend the roads of this city and the controls of a car.
Similarly, when we see those whose careers or indeed incomes we admire and desire, we choose not to see the work that went into getting there. We ignore the doubts along the way and that most ‘authorities in their field’ have learned a lot of lessons the hard way and their status has come through hard graft, talent, passion, a life-time of harnessing all their strengths. We skip over the resilience these individuals had to perfect in order to get up and do it all again when it went wrong.
So you and me, we need to learn a little patience. That if I keep taking lessons, I will eventually enjoy driving a car. And you must trust a little and have the patience to set your career intent  and work on all the elements that will lead to that outcome. Patiently! This means taking in the long view…..
