Leadership Quote: With the passing of Kofi Anan, I was reminded of a wonderful leadership quote in a speech he made in April of 2018
” leadership is not about the individual”
And that says SO much to me. Leadership is NOT about status and leadership is NOT about ego. Leadership is NOT about power. Leadership is NOT about an individual’s identity or aspiration or personal development. Leadership is NOT about titles, being in charge, or about a designation.

“Leadership is not about the individual, when you have macho leaders who believe they have to shine, and it all has to be about them, forgetting that what is required is the welfare of society and the people they serve”
Leadership IS therefore about the welfare of those they serve and It IS about doing the right thing, the ethical thing.
Leadership IS about taking the hard decisions that will move the whole body of people in the best direction and it IS about risking not being liked in favour of being trusted. Leadership IS about fairness and not favour and it IS about admitting mistakes and transparency. Leadership IS about endeavouring to truly understand by not pretending to know it already and therefore it IS about humility. Leadership IS about caring and IS about love. That love is sometimes tough love for those served but is certainly tough on those serving.
