Once You’ve Opened the Door…

Once you have opened the door to personal and professional development, it is nigh on impossible to shut it again. If that sentence frightens you then I would, on one level, agree that it should. In reality however, any step into learning more about yourself and your world will only ever enrich your career.
It is usually ‘discomfit’ itself that propels us on any kind of search for new information or a new career path down which to travel. Once we begin to explore a little, it is a truth that things might feel even more discomforting. In this place we have all the discomfort of the past with the accompanying insecurity of not yet knowing the answers or the right path of the future….
And then we gradually resolve it. If we ask the right people, the right questions, and, if we are really honest with ourselves about our wants and needs, then we shall find the next step that is a good fit for us.
This will be a new place that enriches us. And then, a discomfort will arise again, and we will need to address this too. We begin the cycle once again. The important aspect that will change is our ability to manage these transitions.
We become more adept at recognising when the discomfort arises and swifter at addressing it. We become much more skilled in knowing where and with whom to consult. We become much more confident that we can survive change as our resilience grows. We become much more knowledgeable about ourselves and at recognising choices that nourish us and at jettisoning those that will not.
Our lives are broadened and deepened by the cycle of learning and we are made whole.
