Professional Inventory

The power of our minds is probably beyond anything we can imagine. As Henry Ford famously said ‘whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you are right’. So it seems that our mindset is very important.
Much of my work as a career coach involves enabling individuals, and indeed organisations, to choose a different mindset. To keep doing the same thing again and again and expect a different outcome is one definition of insanity. To behave differently in our professional worlds, we first must think differently .
As we work together, what amazes me, in every single case, is just how much people know, that they do not give themselves credit for. As I ask more and more questions of a client, the diversity and quality of roles, achievements, passions and moments of brilliance that have been filed away over the years gradually emerge. This way I can see the whole human before me. This is when I become awed, and, when I reflect that awe back to them, this is when they can begin to really appreciate and integrate their own achievements.
This is where the mental shift begins. With the reflection and realisation of all that has been achieved so far. This is how self esteem rises. This is how the impossible suddenly seems probable, this is how we can begin to consider the possibilities.
You have to find the belief that there are possibilities for you before you can plan for them. Sometimes it takes are really good mirror to reflect your achievements right back at you before you can feel the benefits of all you have done, and then you are free to take it forward, with the knowledge that you are capable and worth receiving the rewards that will come with the next bit
