Responding to a ‘Let Down’

I am intrigued observing my reaction to a cancelled meeting. Not only did it have business potential, but I also wished to see the colleague concerned as we have much to catch up on. There’s a series of emotions that surface in response to this kind of event. What I am enjoying is that the process is quicker and equilibrium returns more swiftly.
Firstly, there is  irritation, I am a busy woman (read tired). Secondly fear, maybe I don’t matter to the other person (read ego). Thirdly concern, are they ok? (Read rescuer). And lastly ‘oh, I have a little time before the next commitment!’ (read Bliss!).
When I was younger it might have taken me some days to process those stages. So age does have its benefits and possibly even some wisdom?
In my client work I observe people playing mental ping-pong with the intricacies of business and personal relationships too. This is what humans do. And, it is important to remember we have choices. Sometimes it is simply in holding the space for a client, in order that they can hear themselves, that they can choose not to engage with that fight any more.
Might it be time to quit dismantling yourself internally and move your energy towards building the new exciting things in positive places?

Personally I shall now drink my coffee & sit and watch the world pass by for 15 mins……….
