Small Pauses

Multiple demands are made of us, everyday, in a multitude of ways. Things to be done for work rest and play, for ourselves and for employees and for family and friends.

Things to mend, proposals to be written, records to be kept and minutes to transcribe…. & on it goes.

I have a confession to make. I have tried to stop completely. I have spent time plotting to be alone, only for the cat, child, colleague or even the post man to interrupt.

I have raced faster and faster thought the days’ to-do list in order that there be a little space at the end of it to relax,

I have got up earlier and earlier and gone to bed later and later in order to make more time in which to get it all done.

I have turned off all devices to quiet the world, only for a friend in distress to physically turn up on my doorstep…..

So I quit. Whilst I am not indispensable, whilst I have a toddler and a business, I need to accept that I will never quite be off the hook.

And maybe this is a good thing? For the solitude I believe I crave might actually be my downfall…… Left to my own devices, who knows what difficulties o might cause myself!

Perhaps it’s time to enjoy the privilege of belonging, in this time, with these people, pausing in this sunny moment……
