The Benefit of Knowing Your Professional Identity

With the career coaching I provide, the tweak that often needs to be made in order to make everything line up, concerns an individual’s professional identity.
Humans are made up of layers and layers of ‘assumed’ notions of self-perception. Throughout our lives we take onboard the expectations of other. These expectations are usually well-meant, but, unless they serve us, they can inhibit the development of a really true and enjoyable career path.
From the moment we arrive in this world we are subject to the input of ideas from our parents and our wider family. We assume ideas from society, and then this extends to school, and peers and university and our partners. It is easy to see why we might lose sight of our true selves.
Coaching is a space where some excavation can take place. This is where we get to identify what layers an individual is carrying and then to explore which ones are useful and which are no longer a good fit. It is a process of refining and choosing and nourishing the bits of our professional selves that will take us further forward to enjoy a fulfilling career.
I spent many years trying to meet many an external agenda before identifying my own. If I can help sunrise get to the nub of this essentials information more swiftly, then I have served my purpose.
