The Benefit of Making a Mess of It!
There’s nothing quite like making a mess of something to motivate us into taking action.
I may have mentioned that I ‘failed’ at something yesterday… And as my husband has rightly pointed out, I am “not used to being told ‘no'” and I’m not too comfortable with it either! But, the reality is, we will all get a ‘no’ every so often. It’s how we deal with this that is important.
A ‘no’ is a great time to reassess our situation. Questions will arise. we do have a choice, we can ignore them or we can use them to inform our professional or business development.
A ‘no’ will bruise our ego. Once this has subsided however, we now have a golden chance to re-examine key aspects of the task, pitch or project. Was it something we wanted to do or something we felt we ‘should’? Authenticity goes a long way in achieving success. Was the environment right us? Did we bring the right skills, capabilities, attitudes and beliefs to that environment? What went well? do more of it. What beliefs about ‘them’ or ourselves caused us to limit our performance.
How can we find the sweet spot between holding true to ourselves and meeting the external need?
This is a really valuable opportunity if we but make it so!
