The Benefits of Being Out Of Your Comfort zone.

Today I did a new thing. Today I did what was for me, a Big New Thing.
I got up at 5.30am and I went out in the dark in order to pitch my business to a room full of strangers.
This was right at the outer reaches of my learning edges for a multitude of reasons. As a night owl I would prefer to be going to bed at 5.30am and not rising. As an introvert, I would rather communicate one to one than en mass. As an entrepreneur who has an authentic business that is not “just about the money”, it feels both vulnerable and somewhat un-British to brag about how good it is!
But that’s what I did! & guess what? I learned stuff. And even better, the experience gave me confidence and a certain new level of pride in myself and in my profession.
Of course I would love that couple of hours to have generated whole heaps of business for me. I will need to wait before I reap what has grown from the seeds that I have sown. But for today I figure I have done good.
I learned I could show up, and show up good. I learned my business has value in a corporate setting. How do I know? Because I got invited back. I learned that I could be very true to myself and be, simultaneously, business like. I learned that whilst I may have got egg on my skirt (one of the pit-falls of a breakfast meeting I guess!), I did not get egg on my face. I did not fall over, dry up, stumble or blush. I made my pitch like a professional.
I made my business pitch like a professional because I know my business inside out and thus I AM a professional. Interesting to note that it is only ever me that doubts me……
Do you doubt yourself and what helps you overcome this. I’d love to know what works for you.
