What To Do With A Career Setback

It can be painful when we have prepared for an interview and not got the job. We are bound to take it personally if a career development plan doesn’t work out immediately. Our ego will certainly suffer if we gather all our reserves to do a presentation and yet don’t get the credit for doing so. Even if, deep down, we knew in hindsight that the time was not quite right for this bit of our plot to succeed, it’s gonna be flippin sore….
So here’s a solution. Surround yourself with love. Gather all who love you, in all their different ways and pull them close and let yourself be loved. Reach out to new people who are attempting to do as you are. See these people as potential allies not the enemy and invite them to care for you too for these are exactly the people who will understand! Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, love yourself.
There will be plenty of things to learn from a career setback, but firstly, just reward yourself for having the sheer courage to show up. Then, and only then, are we humans open to learning from the experience. If we can kind to ourselves we can learn all we need because our defenses will dissolve.
