You Can Turn Your Day Around In An Instant
There is little that is as frustrating that getting off the bus, on a very rainy winter morning, only to see it drive off with the folder full of notes for you imminent meeting sitting smugly on the seat. That is second only to running inelegantly after the aforementioned vehicle for two stops, only to find the folder has been redirected to lost property at the bus station, which is obviously in the other direction….. & this was only one event in a list of challenges, all before 9am.
This is what I call a ‘pushing doors that say “Pull” on them day’. There is the potential for the day to continue right on on this manner if I choose to let it.
The important word in the above sentence is ‘choose’. Folder safe in hand, but drenched, tired and fuming, I could have perpetuated that ‘poor me’ position and taken that negative energy right through until my miserable bedtime.
Instead I had a few terse words with myself….. I found a dry place. I stopped and took some deep breaths. I reminded myself I was not yet late and I had regained my folder. I chose to harness the better-me and take that one forward to the next bit of my day.
The result? A positive meeting. An excellent bit of learning and connecting. A very good new start to what became a productive day. It could have been so very different……..
How do you turn it around? I’d love to know.
