Authentic Working.
The lovely thing about being a coach is that I genuinely want to help. I want to help even if the work is not in the coaching remit right now…. I will always endeavour to assist a client to find what they really need. This frequently involves accessing my network of providers that have differing skills from mine.
I love it if a coachee or supervisee says ‘do you know someone who can work with xyz’ and I have someone in mind. That is a joyous moment for me because I can still meet their need, even if that is by signposting an individual onwards to the another effective environment or practitioner. I have no need to either seek or try to hold onto a potential client who is not in the right space in themselves to do career coaching work. Very little would be achieved and we would both end up frustrated. That is not rewarding or potent working. This lacks satisfaction and reward for both client and coach so Why bother?
But if a Colleague, a client, a fellow practitioner or even a human in the street asks me a question or has a curiosity that I can help with solving, then I have done my job. I have played my part. This is not about ego, this is about belonging. If something has shifted a little because of my intervention…. Then my day can count as a success.
This work is not about the money, it’s about the joy, it’s about the justice, it’s about the autonomy of individuals. and thus, this coach can make money out of it too. That’s an athentic win-win in my world. What are the rewards of authentic work in yours?
