Career Coaching Advice

Career Coaching Advice: My contract clearly states “Career coaching is not advice …..” and it does so for REALLY good reason. I am a firm believer that YOU have your own answers and that you have come here to work with me to hear them.
.
“the important bit that needs to be attended to is The Power Dynamic.”
AND, there are times that I WILL absolutely ‘advise’ the client sitting before me. — Why? Because there is no need for all of us to reinvent the wheel
The advice I offer up will always come with a caveat ‘You can choose to throw this next idea right out of the window if it doesn’t work for you’.
However, if I see something that aligns, even if it originates in another industry sector or level of seniority. If it feels relevant to the human in front of me, I WILL offer it up.
.
So coaching CAN be advice. No human operates in a vacuum. AND, the important bit that needs to be attended to is The Power Dynamic. Inherently, The Coach can, be it conscious or otherwise, be viewed as having “Authority.”
The truth is that The Client is their own authority. The client knows what resonates with them. The client knows what’s ‘true’ for them. Ultimately the client knows their own answers.

And I need to be really clear from the outset that as the coach I am merely the catalyst. I need to grant power to the relationship and the client. My role is merely to be curious, to ask all the questions, to keep on paring back the resistances to gently expose the possibilities
Sometimes providing guidance can be a similar tool. The human in front of me will know if the guidance I’m offering works for them.
They will also very clearly know when it doesn’t — and THAT can stimulate the answer in them, that they seek.
This coaching relationship is a dance and the steps, especially of the coach, need to be explicit and consensual
