I kinda like “Career Coaching Guide” as a title – I have over the last 15 years noticed that I those who come to do this with expect that I will tell them what to do …

The best I can do is GUIDE people towards their own answers.

There are a multitude of ways of doing so, usually the human in front of me has no idea that I am doing so — an excellent bit of coaching always feels like a conversation. Very few people would know or notice the interventions I’m drawing on as we work toghether.

The flip side is “No Escape Coaching” and I can absolutely guarantee that we will have at least one of these moments during our time together.

One where I refuse to give you any more information and you have to come up with your own answer. I can be stubborn. There may be silence. And, I’m easy with sitting with this because if I tell you what to do, or want to choose, you will reject that answer anyways – why? Because it isn’t  YOUR ANSWER. And so how can you truly action anything that didn’t come from you.

In one occasion there was such a silence and the client was so frustrated and stuck that on a dark wet night I ushered him out of house to march him around the local park. He was a very senior academic, he could not stop over thinking. By shoving him out into the elements we brought him down from his into his body again —- and it the cold, dark, wet blustery weather, he began to speak from his heart.

So, NO, I won’t solve your problems because deep down you would resent me if I did. I won’t give you your answers because you would ignore them in the long run.
