Career Coaching Process

If your career coach does NOT appear to have a “Career Coaching Process” — I would see it as a BIG red flag.

A coach by definition is hired to enable you to move forwards in life or work. Therefore a coach needs to be prepared to demonstrate the steps you will be taking together to make that outcome a reality for you. 
 
It’s always a bit of a dance because no one size fits all. A process needs to tight enough to structure the journey together as well as fluid enough to adapt to the individual.
 
This is the navigation that takes place, step by step, within the coaching relationship. Coach and Client are always navigating this bit together — it’s nuanced and subtle and in good coaching it is entirely bespoke to you.

However, if you are serious about moving forward never, ever agree to work with a coach who cannot show you some kind of route map.
 
To meet, as hoc, for a few sessions and ‘play it by ear’, will most likely leave you more confused than ever.
 
The irony is that most of my clients do not yet know where they want to get to — so a BIG part of our work to begin with is the route map that will answer THAT question
