Celebrating Professional Success!

If you don’t ask you don’t get. I’m sure I keep saying this but perhaps it also serves as an affirmation to myself! Are you familiar with that drop in your belly before you ask for something you really want? Do you too look at your list of tasks for the day, and find you have moved one ‘on a day’ a few too many times….. ?
Well, what I discover over and over is that there is a cumulative effect when I don’t tackle it, the thing, the ask, the request, it just gets harder…..
Sometimes I have to take myself by surprise and just begin the email, pick up the phone, arrange the meeting, trusting that, even without heaps of practising and refining, the request will come across ok.
It is not British to ask for what we want, so I make sure that I do. It is not polite to discuss money, so I ensure we have the conversation. It is boastful to tell of ones achievements so I make sure that I have people to celebrate with. It is risking a great fall if we take pride in our work… So I make sure people know just how passionate I am for my purpose.
It is these repressed ‘British ways’ that can really stand right in our way of getting what we deserve….
These are merely beliefs and we can choose to work in an entirely opposite manner if we want. To challenge these beliefs takes courage for it always feels like a risk to try a new way. It also takes practise to embed our new choice so that we are less and less tempted by old ‘easier’ ways that no longer serve us….. But hey! you know what, when I’ve had a professional success am I gonna celebrate? Hell yeah! Because this is the reward that I have worked for!
