Leadership Development Programme
Leadership Development Programme:
It is my opinion the many a leadership development programme lacks subtlety. the very words ‘Leadership’ and ‘Subtlety’ are not often found in the same sentence. That leadership and subtlety are viewed as mutually exclusive appears to be a big problem when it comes to leadership in action.
Nuanced Leadership
Here’s a link the a Mckinsey Report detailing the reasons why many leadership development programmes fail. In essence it describes how such programmes cover way too wide a variety of subjects, none of which are tailored to the individual people, places or things. There are a core set of transferable skills needed in order to lead: The negotiating, the networking, the project management et al… These skills are all entirely ‘vanilla’ unless, you tailor them to your own way of working, to your own individual culture and to your own individual client base. These are the subtleties and a nuances that can make of break a business so perhaps they are not so subtle after all!
Leadership is About People
Leadership is about people. Leadership need to draw forth the very best from its greatest resource, the human one! Leadership needs to be sensitive to people, places and things. Leadership needs to be able to respond to the needs of people and places and things, in order to aid the cultural transitions all businesses need to be making in order to remain profitable. The subtlest of external changes can bring the biggest of impacts on the bottom line if it is not attended to with immediacy.
Lead With Wisdom:
I am only too aware that some of the language in the above paragraph does not comprise the hardcore business terms associated with business development. I do not care. The skills needed with leadership development need to subtlety to respond to people places and things. None of the aforementioned will be ordered around, brutally and seemingly needlessly for very long, before they begin to fight back, When you business culture is in rebellion, then you profit margin will dive. So my advice is to learn attend to ‘the subtleties’ as soon as possible. Bring your awareness to to the people and places and things that affect your industry sector and you can respond wisely to the prompts you receive. Ploughing on regardless of your context will ultimately be futile.
