Trust is essential. One of those biggest indicators that an organisation or project is in trouble is high staff turn over. The loss and replacement of skilled, talented and culturally attuned individuals is HUGE. It is also a sign that something is going badly wrong.
As a leader, you absolutely have to trust that those who join you on this journey will give it their best. And you need to also ensure that these individuals have what they need in order to make this happen.
In order to know what people need, firstly you must ask, secondly you must hear but before all of this, those individuals need to trust you enough in order to tell you. I’ve seen many an organisational dynamic where it is obvious what is not working, in fact, everyone knows what the problem is. But nobody dares to say it. There are Consultants brought in at huge cost and nobody dared voice what is really happening to them either.
