Smart Coaching Goals: Sometimes it is harder to meet your coaching goals than you had first envisaged. This is when it can be useful to break them down into smaller steps.

What seemed like an easily achievable goal at first sight, can suddenly unravel before your very eyes. Then you can be left wondering if the goal was what you wanted after all… Sit with it. Allow it to be. Don’t try to force that decision. It will come to you whether it is rightful for you to continue down that original path, or not, in time.

When you have decided to recommit to your smart coaching goals then you can refocus.

Depending on your learning style, you need to find a way to expand the possibilities around this goal. If you work well with words then journal, if you are naturally creative then mind map it with colours and shapes, if you are kinaesthetic then run or cycle with it. Use whatever technique that you can to unstick yourself.Give yourself the gift of being able to see different facets and options and techniques and opportunities.

Find any way you can to see what can help you, and, indeed who might assist you to meet this goal. It helps if your ambition is not entirely egocentric. Yes! It’s fine if the outcome benefits you personally. It is way easier to progress however when the outcome is in service of something greater than yourself. If what you propose is of genuine assistance to other humans, businesses or the planet, then hold that in mind as you navigate the obstacles, for this will empower your actions.

These might well still be smart coaching goals: It might still be exactly the right ambition to be working towards, but, you might need to find a new way! If you have a passion for the intended outcome then you will employ your tenacity and keep on trying new approaches until you get your own way.

Be tenacious and ever audacious in your ambitions. I dare you!
