Weather

Here in the UK, we are used to the dynamism of the weather. We know to dress for ALL The Possibilities and to take the forecast with a pinch of salt.

However, have you incorporated a similar dynamism in your career? Or, have you got stuck?

“If you want some support in identifying WHERE to place this brilliance of Yours.”

We Gen Xers have difficulty. We have ended up having to navigate our own career pathways without much support.

The previous lot—the Baby Boomers—were ‘the career for life,’ and you’re probably headed for retirement now. The Millennials who followed us were upskilled in managing their professional portfolios.

Weather

We fell between the two stools. Educated to expect to climb the pole of promotion within a single sector, we found we had been launched into a world where we were expected to advocate for ourselves.

That’s quite a skill to learn:

To shout about our achievements  —

To sell our capabilities

To embody our brilliance where we are told that “Pride came before a fall.”

Here’s a task: — Make Three lists:

40 of your skills

40 of your personal attributes

40 of your bodies of knowledge.

Now, get someone to read all those words back to you — breathe them in. This is you seeing YOU from the outside.  — Try it and see how you feel?

We each need to take ownership of the dynamics of our career pathways, just like we know how to dress for the dynamics of UK weather.

And, if you want some support in identifying WHERE to place this brilliance of Yours

You will find me
