Gathering Your Professional Team

I like the following work environment quote. What it does for me is enable me to know that, whatever my next career move is (& believe me I have made a few!), I am not alone.

“In the startup work environment, you get to have a relationship with your boss, the investors, and the key members of the team. Startups are like families – you see the good, the bad and the ugly, but in the end, you’ve got each other’s back.”

Clay Clark

I am my own boss these days. That is surely a different facet of me than the clinical supervisor or the mother.  We all need different professional facets. We all need more than ‘just us’ on our professional team.

Think of the ‘constants’ that have travelled with you as you have continued your CPD, there might be an accountant and a significant other and perhaps children (& those who take care of them as you work). There might be your bank manager and your professional network. There are colleagues and those who have become friends. There are mentors and those who you have perhaps known since you were three… Those are the people who REALLY know you. These are the people who support you when you wobble, who raise you up when you struggle and who celebrate with you when you win. These are the people who mirror your brilliance to you when you are blind to it.

So if you decide to start a business, or to apply for promotion, or change industry sector entirely, these people will still accompany you.

My Work Environment Quote…

…is “you don’t need to do it alone” And when you decide that enough is enough in your current time and you decide to do something that feels radically different, exciting in its possibilities and way outside of your comfort zone, then please keep people are still alongside you.

Yes, you might also need an industry-specific mentor, or some business advice or some marketing expertise, but, the core team may not change too much.

This is why our personal network is so important in supporting or CPD. Keep all these people close and they will see you through each transition. These people keep you anchored right in reality. These people are your strength. Appreciate them.
