Your USP
When your oddity becomes your asset.
When starting a new business it seemed every one was banging on about ‘identifying your USP‘ and it’s took me a while to work that out. What was unique about my business or service? Accessing business advisors and other entrepreneurs and mentors and search engines I googled’
til I was blue in the face….. It was only when I quit working so hard at it and surrendered to the ‘Not knowing’ (ain’t that alway the way!), that I suddenly got it.
Me, it was ME that was the unique thing about my business! And thus the realisation that it is the same for every business and service out there. It is the person (or people), who hold the vision for the business, that makes it unique. It is Us As People with our quirks, oddities and passions that make our enterprises unique…
So this means that whilst at school I believed I was weird because I got overwhelmed by having too much input from too many people at one time. This however makes me an excellent coach today. It is nigh on impossible to interrupt the connection between myself and my client now, be we face to face or working via Skype, because I know just how to close out any distractions.
Whilst I believed I was odd for being able to sense an atmosphere at a 1,000 feet in my family, today this makes me a very effective business coach. I easily comprehend a wide variety of business cultures. I naturally see the tweaks that are needed to realign everyone in an organisation for maximum efficacy and harmony.
Whilst my passion in my youth was to enable others to flourish (they didn’t teach that at GCSEs!), I am right at home supporting the diverse journeys of others these days. It is one of my core values that there be equality of opportunity in this world and a passion that each and every person gets to succeed.
And so this is how my oddities have become my assets. This is how I found my USP, by turning onwards and knowing myself, as opposed to seeking the solution outside. This has been such a valuable journey!
What are your oddities and how can they become you’re strengths? I’d love to know.
