Whats the difference between: A Career Advisor and a Career Coach?
At Global Career Counselling They suggest that a career advisor will ‘use metrics to analyse the clients past and tell them what might be a good fit for them’ and that ‘a career coach will not look at the past’. Personally I think the official definitions of these two are inaccurate.
“A career advisor is a professional who determines the past experiences and data of a client, analyzes them and accordingly provides a suitable career path.”.“A career coach does not consider the past experiences of individuals. He/ she considers the present scenarios and goals of their clients and accordingly get them a suitable solution.”
As a career coach I will NOT be advising you of your suitable professional solution. – together, we will hold the space so that you can do this for yourself
And as I career coach I absolutely DO work with your past
— How can we make good decisions about your professional future if you are not willing to harness all the data there about what did and did not work for you in the past?
Surely this is the WHOLE point of bring a grown-up?
— That you are old enough to know what you do and don’t like. —
— That you have experience under your belt. —
— That you have tried a few things and lived a little —
This is the space where we consolidate those lessons for you.
None of it was a mistake, what it was, was you exploring and experimenting
Within that there will be moments of pure brilliance that you’d like to capitalise on and indeed repeat.
There will also be experiences in there that you NEVER wish to encounter again and, you and I can design your next steps so that you don’t
We can also find the gifts in those darker moments – this is where your wisdom lies
No, we will not loiter in the darkest bits. Together we shall get the head torches on, assess what’s valuable and get out asap
