Career Coaching: Confidence

Career Coaching: Confidence comes through doing “It”. Confidence does not magically arrive by talking about it, or thinking about it, or even from writing about it. Confidence through taking the risk, actually DOING it, and then reflecting to work out what you need to do differently next time.
Whatever learning style you believe you have, when it comes down to it, what we have in common is that we are ALL experiential learners. We have to do it to learn it. And, that’s a risk – sure. You might fail. And ‘failing’ is simply more learning …
If we can frame it that way then failing is useful and failing is not shaming. Life is like a DIY project. Once you take the lid off a problem, it is almost inevitable you will find a few more problems. But, the predictor of success is dependent on one thing: do you give up at the first challenge you face? Or do you persist in problem-solving?

Career Coaching: Confidence

This is why builders drink a lot of tea. In my decorator identity, I’ll strip the wallpaper, only to discover what it had really been hiding. Anything that has Anaglypta on it, shouts ‘Cover-Up’ to me… And so, peel the layers back, expose what’s there and then get practical about solving the difficulties you find. That is when the confidence comes – If you did it before then you can do it again.
So, if success is to continue over the hurdles, then a successful career must be the same. Sure, have some career coaching, do reflect and explore and decide what you want to do differently. And, remember that ‘doing’ is the focus. You can talk about your ideal job until the cows come home. Nothing will change. What you have to do instead is to take that first layer off. You have to take that risk before you know what needs fixing. Then. Take the actions that will do so.
Take a risk and DO “It” – I Dare You!
