Career Coaching: Growth. “If you’re comfortable, you’re not growing,”says my business coach, and I know he’s right. Calvin Coolidge says,
“All growth depends upon activity. There is no development physically or intellectually without effort, and effort means work“
Saturday, (yes, the bank holiday weekend!) I decided I was going to bite the bullet and put the funding bid in…. after 4 hours of writing and pulling all the information together, I then spent a VERY frustrating hour trying to get the system to accept it. It wouldn’t accept it, it didn’t accept it and after my third attempt, I chucked ALL the information into an email and sent it to them, time-stamped so they knew I had got it in before the deadline. Who bloody thought it was a good idea to have a deadline on a Bank Holiday Weekend!!!
The next day, having distributed and hunted for chocolate eggs, I just thought ‘I’ll give it one more go’.I can be a tenacious little bugger. Guess what? It was accepted straight off. No faff whatsoever, receipt in my inbox and well before the deadline…
Now, and THIS is the important bit: Having worked Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning of the holidays…. and having had some success… Workaholic-Me could well have moved straight on to the next task…
Do you know what I did instead?
I sat in the sunshine, reading, ALL of Sunday afternoon.
Gotta know when to stop…
AND I ALSO CELEBRATED!
I now have a wonderful ‘Impact Report” to tout around for other support
A DOUBLE WIN!
I guess ‘growth’ needs to be cyclical or, discomforted ALL the time, we would just burn out.
