The Price Of A Really Good Outcome Is This …
Career Coaching Price: isn’t it easy to tell ourselves we have failed, when what we have actually done is lost sight of the bigger picture… I had a wise therapist who would hear my opening tales of woe and respond with something akin to “everything is perfect as it is”. I would feel utterly murderous and misunderstood. However, he was right. Looking at the bigger picture, that pain and those disasters were exactly what I needed in order to become the woman that I am today. The outcome has definitely been worth that price.
It is SO easy for us to lose this trust that it’s all working out in our work-life too. If I can see no evidence of success then in my head “nothing is happening” and “I am being lazy” and even “nothing will ever happen” when I’m particularly on-form… In this evidence-based, fiscally-measured society of ours, we neglect to attend the other signs of success.
We might have worked so very hard at gathering the information we need that we are actually FULL. We might need time to consolidate. We might need to take the headlights right off the thing itself in order for it to grow and shift and change and emerge. As a client beautifully said, “nobody ever shouted at a stew because it wasn’t cooking fast enough”. So why would we do that to a Human, when we know that a project takes time to become rich and juicy?

New projects, jobs, and whole new careers take time to build. There ARE active times when we are all abuzz with ‘new’ and exciting, with generosity and learning. Then, there ARE times when we must retreat and take care of ourselves. Times when we must protect our new thing from others critical eyes until it is birthed and ready to be seen. We need to let this new thing emerge.
You need to trust that whilst it may appear that nothing is happening on the outside that it is. That even if others have no measure of your success, it is growing. That you need to be really vigilant about holding this new ‘Thing safe. Park it in the diary to revisit it regularly. Work out what it needs and feed it healthily. Set up external accountability with one trusted other and get on with life … it IS happening.
