Career Coaching: The REAL work. This might sound paradoxical, but The Work in career coaching ISN’T concerned with choosing your next career at all….So, what is The REAL Work in this space?
It’s the deep dive into understanding yourself and seeing what drives you. This is getting the headtorch on and going back to see what work environments have worked for you and those that really have not. It’s looking at what you have been saying and doing and then choosing what you would love to be doing and saying in those professional environments instead. With a little detour around what others have been doing and saying that has REALLY pissed you off so you can avoid recreating that again in your new role.
The REAL Work is about doing a good recce of all your capabilities, and once we have those in black and white, they are difficult to argue with, AND you know the depth a breadth of the brilliance you bring. Then The REAL work will encompass weeding out beliefs that no longer serve you and identifying your core values, so you know what pulls you forward. We will examine all your past identities, and by this point, you will be able to identify the essential elements of the professional identity you will be calling in – you will know what you will not compromise. Finally, we will identify your purpose here on the planet….

And, at this point, we STILL don’t know what your next job will be…
While working through all these layers, we will have been documenting your journey. At this point, I will read your story back to you – this is a TOTALLY unique opportunity to see yourself from the outside.
At that point, we launch into your five or ten years vision. There will be TOUGH LOVE at this point because If YOU don’t choose your route – somebody else will do so for you (again!). It’s time to take your power back and design it the way you want it to be.
Then we get nice and practical about EXACTLY how you will achieve your ambition. You know what you bring; you know why you want it. You now know what it is…. So now we work with what and who else you need on board to make this real.
This REAL Work is no quick fix. What it guarantees is a really sustainable decision as to how you move your career forward in these uncertain times… And, I can promise there will be laughter – a few tears as we touch the tender places, but there will be WAY more laughter as we explore all of this terrain together.
