Career Coaching UK

Career Coaching UK: There is a unique flavour to career coaching in this country — It is nuanced, a shared understanding of the senses. Like when the same wine tastes differently in foreign lands than at the dining room table. Similarly, the flavour of this work echoes differently abroad than on home territory.

With words spoken we have a shared understanding of what these words mean, in context, sited here on this body of land.

Coaching humans both here in the UK and abroad are rich experiences

Both scenarios bring their flashes of brilliance. . . And both bring their DANGERS.

Career Coaching UK

With career coaching in the UK, the biggest danger is “assumption”. There are BIG red flags in that it is perfectly possible as we speak the same language, to believe we are talking about the same thing. The biggest danger lies between two people who are MOST alike. It’s too easy to forget to question, to clarify. We can assume we understand one another when in fact we can be WAY off the mark and, not even realise it for quite a long time.
.
With coachees of a different culture, gender, or age group, I am much less prone to assumptions. The fact that we may speak in a different accent, have a very different tone of voice, and each make reference to things that do not automatically make sense, means I am constantly reminded that we might be seeing things from a different perspective.
.
This can save SO much misunderstanding! Why? Because I ask and seek consensus which ensures we are travelling together.
When the coach and client are too similar – I need to be vigilant. Yes! We can have moments of brilliance where I understand where my fellow human is coming from, HOWEVER, if that is based on an assumption then I would be responsible for huge amounts of wasted time as we get to the nub of any misunderstanding.
.
Responsibility for consensus lies with the coach and that’s ME
