Career Coaching: “Who is The Best Coach?”

Career Coaching – “Who is The Best Coach?” — This is an interesting question, and it’s a difficult answer to quantify. However, it’s really important to ask it!
.
When I started career coaching, I think I was the only ‘career coach’ in Bristol. There were a few in London. It’s a title I made up for myself – simply because the clients who were drawn to work with me were those who could turn their hand to anything professionally; however, what they didn’t yet know was what THEIR ‘Thing” was, yet.
.
Today, there are a plethora of career coaches around. This is a great thing – we need good coaches. And some of these, I have even helped to midwife myself. So, how do you know if you have found a good one? It ALL comes down to self-trust and The Power of The Relationship.

Career Coaching: “Who is The Best Coach?”

The relationship Is The Crucible, within which ALL the work is held. When you get this right, then those coaching interventions hold such power because you have trust in and with the person you choose to work with. Without this, these ‘interventions’ are empty.
.
How do you know if you are a good fit? I suggest you meet them. Have a conversation. Ask the difficult questions. See how this person and this conversation feel in your gut. I guess the best measure is if when you leave that conversation, if you have admitted more than you intended to ever admit in that time AND you still feel really good, then this is a relationship that you can trust. Radical honesty is essential for transformational work.
.

If you find you have just done this AND been validated for it – personally, I’d hire that coach because this is a safe place to do the work…
