Career Guidance Counsellor
What is the difference between a career guidance counsellor and a career coach? Wikipedia gives this definition for career guidance counsellor:
“What unites all types of professional counseling is the role of practitioners, who combine giving advice on their topic of expertise with counseling techniques that support clients in making complex decisions and facing difficult situations.”
The words above describe my role as a coach too. When people come for career coaching it is impossible to attend to professional matters in isolation. We are all whole human beings, and, in service of making good, sustainable, career decisions, I can guarantee that we shall be taking look at your whole life.
We shall take a peek at your past to examine how the beliefs and values you bring with you impact your present. We shall explore your present to see what capabilities you have and explore the professional environments and cultures you currently inhabit. We shall envision your future to encompass your ambitions and your professional purpose. The smallest tweaks of adjustment to misalignments in any of these areas will free you up to be the the best professional you can be.
I do fear losing potential business when I say that we shall be taking such a thorough route: Will professionals be wary of engaging with themselves in such a deep way? The Evidence is proving otherwise: The clients keep flowing through the door. Once we have taken this holistic route, they keep leaving, with their professional purpose defined. Clients leave with their next steps towards their 5 or 10 year plan clearly outlined. With each person who enters this space there unfolds a unique journey. Take this this journey, and you will be empowered to take your own decisions, regarding your CPD, for the rest of your working life.
