How Do I Find A Good Career Coach

If you’re asking: “How Do I Find A Good Career Coach?” then you are ahead of the game.  Many people would simply find the closest or the most well-known because it is really difficult to know from a distance.
So, meet them and do THESE two things.

Firstly,

Be prepared to 1ask lots of questions: — What EXACTLY will you take when you have invested time and money in their ‘process’? Will you take what YOU need and not just what they want to give you?

And secondly

Be prepared to get VULNERABLE and see how they hold it.
I have never yet seen a human show up happy for career coaching. … Nobody ever invested hundreds of pounds and masses of their time in a career coach because they were ecstatic about their lives.
.
People show up here frustrated with work, grief-stricken that it’s not serving them any more, confused that they are no longer happy where they once were. Angry with the limitations applied to their work by the system budget cuts and culture change. Furious that there are unnecessary obstacles to their promotion. Bemused that the thing they worked so hard for turned out not to be the thing that made them happy professionally after all.
.
Nobody ever showed up happy to career coaching SO it would be wise for you to ensure it’s a place that you can be ‘not happy’ in for a little while.

How Do I Find A Good Career Coach

Is this a coach who will be at ease with your discomfort?
Is this a coach who can hold you as you navigate this pathway together?

Or,

is this a coach who might flounder if you bring your pain to them?
Is this a coach who might dismiss you because they are unsure how to cope?
Is this a coach who might try to jolly you along or cheer you up to bypass the work that really needs doing?

If so, Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

As you meet each one, test them just a little. Bring a little of your discomfort to them and observe what they do.
If they stay connected with you, you’ve found a good one.

Take the risk. Observe how they behave. Observe also how your body responds.

You will know so; trust yourself. It’s a small risk to establish the trust needed to do the real work to align your career.

Come and meet me.
