Achieve Greatness

One of my favourite Job Change Quotes is this:

“if you want to achieve greatness, stop asking for permission”

This really resonates with me because, as the daughter or a head-teacher, I spent the first 15 years asking for permission to do EVERYTHING. There wasn’t much that my mother did not know about my existence. At 16 I went the other way. At 16 I went WAY too far the other way. I certainly wasn’t heading for greatness when I was playing so hard in the nineties, and, I have been like a pendulum. I swung back to corporate life and was very, very good again.

Maybe it’s merely age, maybe there is a little bit of wisdom informing this journey too, but what I see is a different view. The less I ask for permission, the more I can hear myself. The more I can hear myself the more swiftly I find my solutions. The most swiftly I effectively problems-solve, the more effective I am in the world. My being potent in the world equals my being of service to others.

This is a win-win. I enjoy my position in the world. Others benefit from the ‘who’ and the ‘how’ that I am. This is not a piece of self-promotion. This is not my ego saying ‘I’m great’. This is about Belonging and having a Professional Purpose and being able to Contribute to others and to the world. Want my advice? Observe the about  job change quotes. Quit asking permission and see just who you can become and in what ways you can be of service to others.  Altruism can also be paid; these two things are not mutually exclusive. This is joyous work.
