Try seeing yourself from the outside….

img_8324.jpegI had a weird experience last night. At a meeting I noticed that the tension between myself and a really amazing colleague had dissolved. Whilst there had been no malintent, I think I had been little awed by her brilliance and had perhaps been prickly or defensive in return?

So on quitting the venue last night I mentioned this change in dynamics to a close friend feeling pleased. Her response rather spun me. “Well with two such powerful women in the room there was bound to be some jostling” ….
………..& it took a few moments to recognise that she was speaking of me, I was the other ‘powerful woman’ In that room!
To me this was extraordinary, and illuminating. ‘Powerful’ is something I am only recently owning. That I have power because I am intuitive, brave and resilient is a new recognition for me, and I surely don’t feel all of those things all of the time. Much of my early life was spent feeling small and rather impotent. As I have survived and really begin to thrive following some devastating lessons across the last four decades, I have gained much from them.
So, in recognising what I have acquired, I can learn to use it with discretion. Feeling powerless has lead me to thrash about on the past. Feeling potent means I can choose where and how I use my strengths. Being able to hear another’s perception of me enabled me to not only integrate another facet of myself but also to honour others in the measured way that I use it….

What amazing facet of yourself have you not yet seen? And how can you ensure you use it with discretion?
