Did you know there are actually “Career Coach Jobs” these days. No such thing back in the day !!!
AND, they show up on a multitude of places.
“ As an independent coach, my loyalty lies to you. ”
Schools have career coaches. Corporates have career coaches. HR firms have career coaches. There are career coaches in both not-for-profits as well as the profit sectors.
.
AND What ALL these have in common is that they ALL have an agenda because these coaches are ALL loyal to the people who pay them.
.
And THAT limits their scope.
for example, it might be conflicting, or even unethical for a corporate coach to suggest that an employee leaves the business they is paying them (unless of course the coach had been advised to do so by the organisation?).
It’s worth asking “Who’s tune is your coach dancing to” and “is it wholly yours?”

Across the past 15 years of practicing I have worked with clients who are cross sector, cross organisational, cross-strata of seniority. I have seen coachees move within their organisations. I have supported clients to have the confidence more fulfilling (& better paid) work with more seniority in new organisations.

I have supported clients to move into entirely new industry sectors, becasue they learn just how transferable their skills, personal attributes and huge rafts of knowledge actually are.
