Career Coaching: It isn’t for Me!
“Career Coaching: It isn’t for Me!” Talking to a recovering client of mine I asked her what her biggest fear about coaching had been before we took our journey together. Her answer REALLY surprised me because it showed me how far her self perception is from the woman I see … what a gap! She feared:

“That – it’s for people of a higher level than me – It’s not for me….So what’s the purpose?”
So, this is a human who has set up and successfully runs her own business. She has in the past been a loyal employee in a variety of sectors. She also shows up in the world in a multitude of different ways. She’s a whizz at social media, she’s a systemic thinker. She’s a demon problem solver within other people’s business endeavours.
And yet, she truly believed she …

“ … wouldn’t have anything to bring” And, that career coaching is “for people of a higher level than” her.
Really? She’s already been operating at a significantly more advanced level than most institutionalised leaders – she just couldn’t see it….
Career Coaching: It isn’t for Me!
With a little bit of work together (& a significant commitment from her in her time) she can now see:

- How all the aspects of her are interlinked and aligned.
- Now, she has an appreciation of all she brings as well as the balance of activities she always sought.
- She knows the value of her unique configuration of skills, personal attributes and experience.

So many of us need The Muli-hyphen Career path: Not everybody wants to do “just one thing”. Now, there is space for us to honour a multitude of the facets of ourselves, professionally.
What we also need is mirroring so we understand and respect the value of what we bring. So; if you believe “you have nothing to bring” to Career Coaching, maybe take a pause and ask if this is the truth.
