Career Coaching: What Frightens You?

Career Coaching: What Frightens You? — Personally I think there are plenty of things to be frightened of when considering career coaching. As with any therapeutic ‘intervention’ it can feel like an immense risk to show up to do ‘The work.” HOWEVER, this is a cultural perception and not a reality AND, that doesn’t mean they the fear isn’t there — we have been programmed to think in this way and, internalised, that means this csn prevent us from showing up!

This might just be me but, I can have fears around getting really honest with others, about me. — And, it is ONLY when we risk being really real, they this work can get done.

I fear judgement, I fear being seen in all my ‘weird’, I can feel all The Fear about Who I am and the things I think and the perceptions I hold about the world…

And, do you know what? The more I challenge that shame, the more I share who and how I am, the more ‘normal’ I feel. What I find when I’m honest is a whole bunch of other people who feel similarly. And THAT dissolves the feel is of my ‘weird’ that I carry because there are others who have this  ‘weird’ too. And as a result of sharing my weird, suddenly I find there are places that I belong.
This first began two and a half decades ago for me. Told that ‘Unless I sat in circles and share my weird with other recovering addicts, that i would “use and die”,’  I began to take the risk. — And, What did I find? Two things — that firstly no matter what gender / age or backgrounds, there were significant similarities in the things we felt ashamed of… I wasn’t so different after all.

And; I also found that there were places where we were very different and that was good too — I discovered that we ALL had our own versions of ‘weird’ and that for each of us, theses were our superpowers to take out into the world
Mine in particular was ‘nosiness’. I ADORE working out what makes people tick. Aleays have and always wiil. When I qualified as a coach 15 years ago, I discovered professionally this is actually known a ‘professional curiosity’ and it’s essential to the role.
Combined with a low boredom threshold and an intolerance of systems that do not work, I was totally well placed for people to come and tell me a new story every 90 minutes, enabling me to join the dots with people so that thru could problem-solve.
Who knew that my weird would be as useful to me as it is to others!

So, Be weird; Share it, Celebrate it, make it your Super-power.

Of course you’re scared. — And, challenge that and risk showing up

And together we can claim your Unique brilliance and enable you to unleash your superpower so that it can help the world
