Career Coaching: Why have I never found work that really satisfies me?

The question I am MOST frequently asked in career coaching:

“Why have I never found work that really satisfies me?”

And, in my experience if you are asking it too, firstly you’re not alone and, secondly, it’s not your fault! This conundrum of yours is a result of the way we humans have been programmed to think.

.
— If, like me, you have tried a multitude of roles. If you have got promoted, but the money alone just wasn’t enough. If you have changed sector, even perhaps the city, and you still haven’t sussed it, you may well be feeling like a bit of a failure.
.
And, you might also be losing hope of ever cracking this one for yourself — That’s a dark place to be – I know it all too well.

And, I, we together, might just be able to find your answer if we collaborate. You see, there’s a bit of societal programming in hats had us trapped, especially the most competent of us.
.
We have been taught, by school, by our parents and by our communities, that OUR Answers lie outside of ourselves. Thus, when we have a challenge, we immediately seek “an expert” to tell us what to do.
.
And, when we CAN do just about ANYTHING – we simply show up and do what people ask of us. Why? Because that’s what we have been taught to do.
.
However, what this means is that we neglect to do THE most important thing and stop to ask ourselves what WE want to do.
What this means is that we neglect to do THE most important thing and stop to ask ourselves what WE want to do.
We rarely still ourselves enough to hear the quiet voice on the inside – and this is the ESSENTIAL one to listen to.
So, the bad news is that I DO NOT have your answers.

What I DO have is a structural approach that will we able you to hear YOUR own.
