Careers Service
My Careers Service at school was pretty laughable – After a very swift conversation with a near stranger, I was told I should ‘ Be A Teacher’.
On a level that made sense: My Dad was a teacher. My mum was a head teacher. The only problem being that I didn’t like children. So why would I (or indeed they), flourish in the company of 30 of the little toads!
I know there are such things as career coaches in schools these days. I know a couple personally and they are really very good
And, that doesn’t do jack sh*t for your career trajectory if you left FT education in 10, 20 or even 30 years ago.
Careers Service
If you were brought up to believe in the career for life, you may now be finding things are not how you imagined they would be.
Gone are the days when you would go in at the bottom of an organisation and aspire to running that same organisation by the time you left. Today it is common to move from organisation to organisation in order to meet the opportunites for career develpment you seek. What’s more, very few people stay in the same profession that they started with. Even the redbrick sectors, the doctors and university professors, are switching to new industy sectors mid-way through their career trajectories.
The career for life has gone. Some of us need to navigate this career maze without the foundations given to graduates these days.
If you don’t yet know your “Why”. If you feel lost. If you feel like there could be SO much more to work and your career pathway
Come and work with me. — we can navigate this professional maze together
